FAQ

Let me save us both some time and answer all the questions you have. Click on a question to see the answer.

Do you have any turntables?

Sorry, I’m not that kind of DJ. Check my "Equipment" page again.

Is there anything I need to provide you?

It’s most efficient for me if I’m sitting down. That means:

  • A table big enough for my laptop and amp, at least a card table
  • A chair

I also need:

  • An outlet as close as possible, no more than 25 ft. away

And, if you want to get technical, I don’t even reserve the day without:

  • A down payment, $100 regardless of the event, payable on this site

What kind of music do you play?

I play whatever you want to hear. Hip hop, disco/funk, country, early 90s pop, techno, oldies, 80s new wave, modern rock, ranchero, whatever.

If you email me a request list ahead of time, not only will I have virtually all those songs, but I will have a better idea what exactly you have in mind for your event. The more artists you request, the better I know you and the more closely I will match your expectations.

Are you licensed and bonded?

No, I just know what I’m doing.

Also, DJs in the state of Arizona are not required to get a license.

My deals are pretty low-key. I don’t have any contracts beyond the PayPal confirmation email or have you sign any waivers. I’m just friendly and trustworthy and expect the same from you.

Can I meet you in person before the event?

I’ve agreed to it a few times. However, it’s never once been worth the effort.

The meetings usually last about five minutes, since there isn’t a whole lot to understand regarding what I do. Sometimes they ask me the questions in this FAQ, and then we go our seperate ways.

I understand if you have some need to prove that I’m real, but otherwise there isn’t anything we could do in person that we couldn’t do via email or over the phone. Let me just go on the record discouraging it.

Why are DJs so expensive?

There are a few things you’re getting, in addition to our time. There’s some overhead involved in the equipment and the advertising that probably led you here. There’s also expertise, having a good sense of what people want to hear, what to play when, as well as technical know-how in case of the unexpected. Finally, you get access to my many thousands of songs.

However, most DJs around here will charge $800-2000 for a Saturday event. You can benefit from my services for a fraction of the going rate.

How interactive are you with the crowd?

I’m very comfortable making whatever announcements you want on my microphone; and have a casual, pleasant demeanor on the mic. However, I don’t have any games or specific dances or anything really beyond the music, nor am I expert at verbally goading the crowd into a frenzy. This is good enough for most clients.

What if you don't show up?

I WILL SHOW UP. I’ve probably done close to 100 events, and the music has always started on time. In extreme circumstances I will arrange for a skilled DJ to take my place.

The only thing that could stop your music is permanent catastrophic failure of either my amp, my laptop, or both speakers at or just before your event. In the event of such unlikely (but conceivable) failure, no further payment will be required for your event.
