This is what I’ll be using at your event.
Apple MacBook Pro and iTunes
I don’t have any CDs with me; I keep it all on my laptop (and some less-useful music on an external hard drive).
I organize it all through iTunes, and purchase your requests, or new songs that I know will be requested, on Amazon’s mp3 service. This allows me to have much more music on hand, and access it far more quickly than… everybody else, really.
Thus, don’t expect too much in the way of crossfading, much less turntables and beat-mixing. If you don’t know what those things are, you probably won’t miss them. I’ve at least assisted for all that sort of thing, and I like my sound better for the events I’m doing. You and your guests will too.

My music library
I’ve got several hundred CDs, which I don’t bring with me, and many thousands of mp3 music files on my laptop.
I have every song that anyone has ever requested at one of my events.
All of my music is edited for language, sometimes not enough to be in a Disney movie, but at least clean enough to be on the radio.
